A Christian saint from the 4th-century and a Greek Bishop, Saint Nicholas
remained in the memory of Christianity as a miracle creator. In the
Romanian traditions he is the protector of orphans and poor unmarried girls.
In Romania,
Saint Nicholas precedes Santa Claus. He brings gifts to those children who have
been good and a rod for the “bad” ones. For this, children leave their boots on
the windowsill on the evening of 5 December, and in the next morning, Saint
Nicholas (Moş Nicolae) leaves there the expected presents.
Happy Saint Nicholas!
